Shark kills elderly German tourist off Egyptian resort

Sharm-el-Sheikh (Egypt): A 70-year old German woman died after being savaged by a shark off the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh on Sunday. The woman’s right thigh and elbow were torn off in the Red Sea attack and she died within minutes, according to security officials. The latest incident comes only days after sharks attacked four other European tourists in the same waters. This was the third attack in a week, reports the Daily Express. The dead woman had been snorkelling in Na’ama Bay, the resort’s main centre, and her body was found washed up on the shore. Witnesses described how she had screamed for help after being attacked by the shark close to a reef. Confirming her death, a spokesman for the German Federal Foreign Office said: “The German Embassy is in contact with the Egyptian authorities, with the local travel agency and a relative of the deceased and is taking care of the consular duties.”
