October 4, 2010 | BA jet makes emergency landing following faulty door scare | London: A British Airways jet heading to New York reportedly made an emergency landing after a light in the cockpit indicated there was a problem with one of the doors.
According to the Daily Mail, the British Airways Boeing 747had taken off from
Heathrow airport and was over London on Sunday morning when it was discovered
that the handle on one of the doors was moving. The plane was airborne for 11
minutes, according to a spokeswoman for BA. "'I'm traveling with my fiancée, and
he saw smoke under the wing,' It wasn't fun. I fly a lot for work, and I knew
we were flying too low. Other passengers were quite calm, but I was nervous,"
Hanna Evershed, who was on board said. "Passengers disembarked after the aircraft
operating BA117 from Heathrow to New York JFK returned to Heathrow shortly
after
take off. The aircraft landed safely and taxied to the stand," she added. She
further stated that a full investigation was under way and the passengers were
put on another flight to continue their journey.
