Six bodies of Indians killed in Saudi strike on Yemen rebels found
NEW DELHI: Six of the 21 Indians who were in two boats at the Yemeni coast near Hodeidah that came under the continuing Saudi airstrikes on rebels in Yemen are dead, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Friday. Their bodies have been recovered and the funeral is being arranged in Hodeidah on Friday for which the consent of their relatives have been obtained, said an
official spokesman in Delhi.
Two boats called Mustafa and Asmar carrying 21 Indians came under Saudi aerial attack on September 8. Fourteen of them were rescued and 7 were reported missing. Now it has been confirmed that 6 bodies have been recovered.
Of the 15 others 14 are safe in Hodeidah and 4 of them are udergoing treatment in a hospital there. All the 14 are in touch with their families, claimed the Indian Ministry. However, the identities of the dead and the survivors have not been revealed. The embassy in Djibouti is trying to trace the missing person,
officials said.
India has no Embassy operating in Yemen as the mission was closed in April due to the conflict there.
The Saudi airstrikes have destroyed parts of Saana's Old City. The decades old war between the Houthis and the ruling clique in Yemen has killed over 2,500 and wounded 11,000 this year alone, according to World Health Organization. The Houthis, a reaction to age-old political corruption, claim they are no Iranian proxy.
