MUMBAI: Although the Mumbai police had said that they had issued summons to the controversial trident-wielding and all-red godwoman Radhe Maa to appear for interrogation on Monday in connection with a dowry case in which she had been accused of abetment, and another case filed by an advocate for displaying blinding obscenities that raged on the electronic and social media for days, they have finally postponed the interrogation plan by a few days.
They police have come up with an explanation that they need to collect further evidence
and will call Radhe Maa only after recording the statements of five other accused in the FIR filed by complainant 32-year old Nikki Gupta against her husband Nakul Gupta and the in-laws, who had been Maa's devotees for long. Nikki has alleged "mental and
physical harassment for dowry" which legally requires immediate action on the part of the police under the dowry prohibition Act. Radhe Maa has been accused of instigating Nakul.
Out of compulsions of fear or favour, the police on Sunday issued the summons to Radhe Maa giving time to appear in four days at the Kandivali police station for recording her statement.
"Summons has been issued to her and she has to appear in the court within four days, whenever the court will call her. If she doesn`t appear in the court then another summons will be issued against her," Kandivali police inspector Sudhir Dalvi told a news agency reporter.
Radhe Maa, who had been to Aurangabad and returned to Mumbai on Sunday, introduced to the media her daughters-in-law Megha and Manisha. “The complainant, Nikki Gupta, who has filed the dowry harassment case, is very poor. But she should know that if I have not taken anything from my daughters-in-law, who belong to royal families, then why will I take bribe from such a poor person who even has nothing to eat,” she told a TV Channel. “My younger son, who is in Thailand, is soon going to feature as a lead hero in one of the upcoming movies,” she added.
Back in her ashram, Radhe Maa was in her electric self once again, planting pecks and getting into those ecstatic steps joined by her followers with abandon, and in frequent intervals being physically carried around by ardent devotees in their arms by turns, without discrimination to gender.
She claimed to newsmen that she was being "unnecessarily involved in this dowry harassment case.”
According to Zee TV, Radhe Maa says "my family is rich, I'm not after money"? and she is reported as being fond of gifting expensive articles like gold ornaments to her
favourite dovotees.
"Mujhe kisi se koi shikayat nahi hai. Karan karavan aape aap, maanas ke kuchh naahi haath (He (Lord) himself is reasons behind all causes, humans have no control over their destiny)," Radhe Maa had told NDTV last week.
While in Aurangabad she had told the media that "God will do justice to me.”
Meanwhile, several celebrities have come in the open to defend Radhe Maa. Actress Rakhi Sawant said Radhe Maa is "akin to God" for her. Filmmaker Subhash Ghai is also said to be a devotee of Radhe Maa.
Radhe Maa commands a sizeable following in Mumbai and is a familiar face to Mumbai's alleys.
