Shirdi Sai Baba temple aarti timings restored
SHIRDI: The Shirdi Shri Sai Baba Sansthan Trust (SSST) has withdrawn its decision announced earlier in the day extending the timings of the aartis in view of the rush due to the ongoing Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh mela as the devotees and local residents staged a hunger-strike in front of the SSST office on Saturday.

The trust’s executive officer, Rajendra Jadhav, said the decision has been reverted. He said now the aartis will be held as per the old timings. Kakad aarti will continue to be held at 4.30 am and shej aarti at 10.30 pm.

A three-member committee had earlier in the day decided that owing to the heavy rush of pilgrims the kakad aarti will be advanced to 3 am and the shej aarti would be extended to 11.30 pm.

“The changes were effected from today for at least two months, considering the heavy rush of pilgrims during the ongoing Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela, so that the main temple of Shri Sai Baba will be open for 20 hours in a day,” Jadhav had told newsmen then.

Offerings to the Sai Baba are accepted from 7.00 am till night aarti. Offerings can include flowers, garlands, coconut, sweets. They can be purchased from the shops in the premises of the temple complex.

About the Sai Baba:

Who is Sai Baba? The word 'sai' means saviour and 'baba' grandfather. The Sai Baba was an Indian Godman, a spiritual master. Born on September 28, 1835, he lived in the little village of Shirdi in Maharashtra. He is also seen as a saint, fakir or satguru, as per one's proclivity. It is not known if Sai Baba was a Hindu or Muslim. He attained samadhi on October 15, 1918. It is said Baba's healing touch solved problems of whoever reached the steps of Dwarkamai. The Sai Baba is believed to have performed miracles and has a large following.
