Tokyo: An earthquake of magnitude 7.3 on Richter scale struck Japan's east coast early Saturday morning at 2:10 am (Tokyo time). The tremor was felt in Tokyo, 500 km away. It also shook the Fukushima nuclear power plant. The authorities said there was no damage to the plant, yet workers have been told to keep off the coast. In the 2011 earthquake, which claimed about 20,000 lives, the Fukushima plant was damaged. Most of the nuclear plants remain shut since then. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake was around Iwaki, Honshu, the largest and most populous island of Japan. A tsunami advisory was issued and later withdrawn as the seismic waves have not been dangerously high hours after the tremor.
