May 30, 2010 | Four eves to contest for Miss Tibet 2010 crown |
Chandigarh: The annual beauty pageant for Miss Tibet will witness four contestants vying for the crown this year. Preliminary
rounds for the Miss Tibet Beauty Pageant 2010 were staged at Chandigarh on Saturday.
The finale will be held at Himachal Pradesh’s Dharamsala on June 06. "There are
four finalists in the pageant this year. This is the ninth edition of Miss Tibet
pageant. The final will be held in Dharamsala on sixth June," said Lobsang Wangyal,
Director, Miss Tibet Beauty Pageant 2010. This year's pageant has been sponsored
by Kingfisher Airlines. The four contenders chosen at Chandigarh will undergo
a further weeklong training-cum-grooming session prior to the final competition
rounds. The participating Tibetan beauties were critical of Chinese tactics in
their homeland and they wished to reaffirm their Tibetan identity. "I think China
has no business to interfere with our country. I am a Tibetan and I will feel
great and I will be proud of myself that I am taking part in this contest and
I am proud of my country and I am proud to represent myself for Tibet. I can participate
in any international competition and China has nothing to do with that," said
Rinchen Chodan, a finalist. The winner will receive a cash prize of rupees one
lakh. Lobsang said he has opted to keep this year's beauty pageant a low-profile
one considering the tragic earthquake that stuck Kyegudo region in Tibet last
month. |
