May 14, 2010 | Meditation, yoga training for auto drivers in Chennai |
Chennai: A non-profit organization, with the help of traffic police of Chennai, has organized meditation and yoga classes for the city's autorickshaw drivers. The meditation and yoga course is organised jointly by the Art of Living Foundation and the Chennai Traffic Police. So far 150 autorickshaw drivers have participated in this course. The course aims to improve their adherence to traffic rules and behaviour. "This kind of meditation
and yoga will certainly reduce the stress on the part of auto drivers, in turn
it will reduce the harassment by the auto drivers towards public," said M Ravi,
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Chennai Police. "It will definitely
help the auto drivers, as they tend to violate the traffic rules lot of times,"
said Niharika, the trainer and organiser. The yoga and meditation course will
continue throughout the year. The organizers hope to have similar courses in other
cities of Tamil Nadu. |
