| March 6, 2010 | Violence in Hyderabad following lawyers' attack on Naidu | |
Hyderabad:Violence erupted here on Saturday after a group of pro-Telangana lawyers raised slogans against Telegu Desam Party (TDP) chief Chandra Babu Naidu, who was to address a rally against the Centre's failure to keep a check on
inflation. The clash took place when lawyers belonging to the Telangana region tried
to disrupt the proceedings. The situation later turned violent when TDP party
workers clashed
with the lawyers for using derogatory remarks against Naidu. Telegu Desam Party
and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) supporters were protesting against
the Central Government for not keeping a check on the steep increase in prices
of essential commodities. Lawyers alleged that protestors brutally assaulted them
and demanded strict legal action against all accused. Mohammed Ammeruddin, one
of the lawyers said, "This happens for the first time that someone brutally attacked
High Court lawyers with sticks, stones and rods...they beat us brutally and many
of our colleagues received injuries, one of our colleagues is very serious." "I
am appealing on behalf of Telangana Advocates to book a case of murder under
section
302 against Chandrababu Naidu and Krishna Reddy," he added. Meanwhile, the city
administration has taken all measures to prevent any untoward incident after the
clash between the two outfits. Hyderabad has become an epicenter of Telangana
politics, and has seen a series of violent incidents since December 23, after
the Centre deferred from its promise to initiate the process for the formation
of a separate Telangana state. |
