February 25, 2010 | Ahmedabad hosts yoga camp for board exam students |
Ahmedabad:In an attempt to improve the psychosocial competence
of students appearing for board examinations this year, the city of Ahmedabad organised a yoga camp. Adarsh, a non-profit organization, sponsored the event.
During the psychotherapeutic camp, experts imparted various yoga techniques to
release stress, such as deep breathing, visualization, progressive muscle relaxation
and meditation. Students said the camp had helped them to release physical and
emotional stress. "My tension has almost gone and my confidence has increased
a lot. My fear has also gone and I can do anything what I want to do. I can also
do what others can tell me and now I can challenge anybody in any field," noted
Rutva Shah, a class 12 student. Working professionals, housewives and others also
participated in the camp. "I feel really very relaxed after attending this camp.
I feel like to attend the next session also so that I can reduce my stress and
could concentrate more on my work besides studies. This could be very helpful
in my profession and future also," Chaitali Shah, a tax consultant and final-year
student of chartered accountancy. Parents also applauded the organizsation's efforts
and said the exercise would help their children prepare mentally for future challenges.
"We often hear about students committing suicide because of mental pressure and
stress...we admitted our child in the camp in order to make him mentally prepared
for the pressure " said Beena Khandhar, a mother. India has witnessed a number
of incidents involving 10th and 12th class students committing suicide because
of examination failure, family pressure and competition. |
