March 3, 2019
TIRUPATI: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, along with his wife Maitree Wickremesinghe and other ministers and their families on Friday visited the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh.

This is the second time in about two years he visited the temple to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara.

Ranil Wickremesinghe was on a two-day visit to the temple town (March 1 and 2). He arrived at Tirupati airport in a special flight from Chennai airport in the afternoon on Friday and reached Tirumala rest house by road. The Chittoor district authorities and the police had made elaborate security and other arrangements.

The Sri Lankan Prime Minister thanked the Central and State Governments for all assistance rendered for their visit.

Tirupati is located at the foot of Seshachalam Hills of Eastern Ghats which were formed during the Precambrian era. In southern India, Tirupati Balaji is Lord Venkat, a form of Lord Vishnu, and not Hanuman. The Lord Venkateswara temple is around 2000 years old.
