Reliance Retail enters e-commerce market in fashion business through ajio.com

MUMBAI: Reliance Retail is entering e-commerce market in fashion and lifestyle through ajio.com. Its main rivals will be global firms like Amazon and Flipkart. The chief executive of its e-commerce section, Sanjay Mehra, said at the launching event on Saturday that the company will initially make deliveries at 15,000 pincodes immediately in a couple of months. There are about 40,000 pincodes in the country.

The Reliance fashion e-commerce website also launched its first women’s wear brand ‘AJIO Own’ at the show during Lakmé Fashion Week 2016.

The company had announced in October last it was going to launch its e- commerce portal for fashion and electronics by 2015 end, “Reliance Retail 2.0 initiatives encompassing fashion and lifestyle e-commerce, development of marketplace platform and building distribution ecosystem for Jio devices are on track and gearing up for rollout in a staged manner."

Based in Mumbai, Reliance Retail is a subsidiary company of Reliance Industries founded in 2006. It is the largest retailer in India in terms of revenue. The retail outlets offer foods, groceries, apparel, footwear, electronic goods, fruits and vegetable and other consumer goods.

Headquartered at Reliance Industries Limited, Nariman Point, Mumbai, with Mukesh Ambani as CMD and son Akash Ambani as Director, it operates grocery chains Reliance Fresh, Reliance Super and Reliance Hyper with a chain of stores all over India.
