August 8, 2012 | Kareena sizzles on ramp at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai |
Mumbai:Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor marked her presence at the Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in Mumbai in a scintillating attire made by designer duo, Pankaj and Nidhi. The young designers received a standing ovation, as models dressed in modern attire made the audiences' heart flutter with their
charm. Kapoor, who stole everyone’s thunder, was elated to be a part of a show
that promoted emerging designers. Digressing from their signature style, the designer
duo scorched the ramp with their exquisite designs and unusual colour palette.
Kapoor said the fashion circuit has revamped in recent times, adding that it was
an honour for her to showcase Pankaj and Nidhi’s latest collection. "It's obviously
the first time that I am walking for Pankaj and Nidhi and Kallol. Obviously, everyone
has seen me on the ramp before for the veteran designers, but what makes this
moment so special is that I am really happy to be encouraging young and fresh
and new talent and I am happy that I happen to be the brand ambassador, it's actually
an honour to be wearing their clothes, because it was like electric I think the
kind of reception the three of them have got. I have never seen Indian designers
make these kind of clothes, so actually I should be thanking Pankaj and Nidhi
and Kallol for making me wear and just having me walk this ramp," she said. Fashion
designer Pankaj said they are experimental in their approach, adding that he and
his wife have used paper cuttings and origami in their collection. "The inspiration,
we always like to work with different crafts and cultures and this time, the craft
was technology meets craftsmanship. So, our patterns come kaleidoscopic patterns,
the inspiration for clothes itself comes from flowers, but very geometric origami
type of flowers, so there is paper cutting techniques, lattice work technique.
So there's not one inspiration, but a lot of ideas which come together, because
it is the grand finale. We had to have a lot of grand ideas," he said. Meanwhile,
designer Kallol Datta's collection had monochromatic undertones with prints dominating
in knee length dresses and skirts. The collection grabbed a lot of eyeballs, with
models adding that quirky touch to the collection. One of the leading events in
the history of Indian Fashion has been the Lakme Fashion Week, a joint initiative
by the leading cosmetic brands, which provides a platform to showcase India 's
rich, diverse and unique textile tradition. It usually showcases an extraordinary
range of Indian textiles reflecting the cultural richness and malleability of
the society. The fashion gala concluded on Tuesday.
