August 6, 2012 | Ritu showcases Marilyn Monroe inspired collection at LFW |
New Delhi:
Celebrated Indian designer Ritu Beri has revealed that her collection, which was showcased
on runway at the 13th Lakme Fashion Week, was inspired by the "Marilyn Monroe
of today". Beri and Volvo Cars collaborated to present their line, 'Icons of Luxury',
with the designs inspired by the quintessential fashion icon of yesteryears. "My
collection has been inspired by Marilyn Monroe, but the Marilyn Monroe of today.
She is the woman who lives in every woman. She is sexy, girly and romantic and
so is my collection. The collection recreates the romance of a woman," she said.
The collection included both long jackets and short shrugs, teamed with dresses,
skirts and ripped jeans. The color palette of the garments ranged from white to
mild pastel shades of red, pink, blue and yellow. All models donned headgear ranging
from elaborate hats to caps with flowers. Most importantly the designer paid emphasis
on the wearabliltiy of her garments, which were very feminine in their designs.
"The clothes may look elaborate all together. But broken down as a single t-shirt
or a jacket, they are pretty wearable. They have all been priced separately,"
she said. Supermodels Jesse Randhawa and Lisa Haydon strutted the ramp for the
designer. The show was a star studded event where celebrities like Kunal Kapoor,
Poonam Dhillon and Pooja Bedi watched the designs being showcased.
