PUNE, Feb 2: The Pune airport will remain closed for 14 days during April-May for runway repairs, airport authorities said.
The Pune airport, situated at Lohegaon, is operating from a defence land of the Indian Air Force. The runway is also maintained and repaired by the IAF. At present flights are operating from the airport only during the day as work has already started and is being carried out during the night at present. The work started on October 26.
The airport authority said, "As per information received from Indian Air Force (IAF), due to runway resurfacing works, Pune Airport will have no flight operations for 14 days from 26th April 2021 till 9 May 2021."
The airport caters for 170 flights a day normally. It serves both domestic and international flights, mostly to West Asia.
Flyers have complained that they should have been informed and the airlines should not have booked their tickets for the period of airport closure. Bookings were being done even till last week. They allege that the airport authorities are passing the buck to the airllines. Nobody is taking the responsibility, they said.
