Mamata call for four rotating national Capitals on poll-eve
Mamata's demand for a national Capital in Kolkata by rotation, especially coinciding with an emotive birth anniversay celebration of Netaji, is set to whip up Bengali sentiments.

KOLKATA, Jan 25: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wants four national Capitals for India. Addressing a rally on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s 125th birth anniversary on Saturday, the Trinamool Congress leader asked, “Why there is only one national capital? Why can't there be four national Capitals, in the North, South, East and the West. And why can’t these function on a rotational basis?”

Mamata asked why everything is confined to Delhi only. "I will tell my MPs to raise the demand for four national Capitals in Parliament. We need to change our thinking. Only one leader, one nation will not do," she added. “During the British-era, Kolkata was the Capital of the country," she said. They ruled the country from Kolkata.

She also objected to the BJP celebrating Bose’s birth anniversary on January 23 as ‘Parakram Diwas.' "We are celebrating the day as ‘Deshnayak Diwas,’ she said. Mamta said Rabindranath Tagore had described Netaji as ‘Deshnayak’.

Mamata said Netaji had advocated unity among all communities in the country. She also demanded to declare Netaji birthday as national holiday, on January 23.

She also kicked off a long procession to pay tribute to Netaji.

The celebrations have come just ahead of the Assembly elections in which BJP is trying hard to seize power from the TMC. Political activities have become very hectic with many leaders crossing camps. Mamata's announcements on Netaji's birth anniversary are bound to have tremendous impact on the esoteric Bengali social psyche in tilting the wave towards her.
