DENVER (Colorado), Dec 30: The first case of UK covid variant in the US has been discovered in Colorado, Governor Jared Polis announced on Tuesday.

It is B.1.1.7 variant, more contagious than other strains but is neither more lethal nor one that makes one sicker. It is beleived that the vaccines being administered in many countries and those being developed are good enough to check the new variant as well.

The man in his 20s found to have the covid variant is in isolation and recovering from his illness in southeast of Denver in Elbert county. The Colorado State Laboratory confirmed the virus variant. There is a possibility of the virus variant having spread far in the State as the man only works in the county but is not a resident there and used to commute from outside.

Health authorities say he had no travel history nor any close contacts.

The variant was first found in southeastern England in September and accounted for a quarter cases in London in November and 60% cases in December. London and southern England are under lockdown.

Dozens of countries have suspended UK flights since December 22. Japan has banned entry of all foreigners.

The new strain has also been discovered in India, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Japan, Singapore, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates in the past week.

However, scientists say the situation is not alarming, the new variant is not more lethal.
