NEW DELHI, Dec 12: The Indian Railways has suddenly discovered that the passengers have been spending sleepless nights in sleeper class on lower side berths for seven decades.
The undulating surface of the two wooden planks that are downed and joined to form a berth at night has been a painful punishment for the passenger's spine, giving the feeling of lying across logs separated by a gap. Besides, when one is up, the other is down. Because there are only a few passengers per bogie tortured by this phenomenon, there have been no complaints from the sufferers who just take it as one other inevitable in our life, and forget about it once they reach their destination.
Someone in the Railways who has felt empathy has taken the initiative to make a change. That change cannot now be stopped till all bogies are done. Because that is the dynamics of business.
An extra bed has been provided on the side which can be pulled up and spread on the seats in the night to sleep comfortably.
