CHENNAI, Dec 4: The colleges in Tamil Nadu have reopened after remaining closed for the last eight months due to coronavirus epidemic but the classrooms are empty as the students are scared of infection.
The colleges opened on December 2 but the attandance was poor. They had opened only for postgraduate and research scholars and professional courses. The educational institutions were told to follow all the corona guidelines. Hand sanitizers and thermal scanners were installed at the gates of the institutions.
While some students from the city made it to the colleges, many students who reside in remote areas were unable to reach due to lack of safe transportation facilities. Most parents too expressed their apprehensions over sending their children as the epidemic is still raging and people continue to die in large numbers. The colleges are therefore making online arrangements for semester examinations in the second week of December.
Some parents said coronavirus has given an opportunity to realise the futility of going to these colleges, wasting time and hard-earned money.
