
Bharatpur

Bharatpur
is world famous for its bird sanctuary called Keoladeo
Ghana National Park. It is situated 55 km from Agra.
Keoladeo
Ghana National Park:
One of the best bird sanctuaries in the world, it was
the hunting ground for the rajas of Bharatpur. It has
a wide variety of exotic birds like the geese from China.
Siberian cranes come here every
winter.
Bharatpur
Palace: The
magnificent palace is a fusion of Mughal and Hindu architecture.
It has a museum inside, displaying ancient exhibits.
Lohagarh
Fort: The fort with the iron structure was
built by Maharaja Suraj Mal, who also founded Bharatpur.
There are three palaces inside.
EXCURSION:
Deeg (32 km): This was the summer resort of the rajas,
the so-called second Capital. It has magnificent palaces
and beautiful gardens.
HOW
TO REACH: The nearest airport is in Agra, 55 km. Trains
connect Bharatpur with Delhi, Mumbai, Agra and Jaipur.
There is bus service to all major towns. Cycle-rickshaw
and tonga are local transport.
SIGHT-SEEING:
The forest department arranges mini buses for going round
the sanctuary.
