PERAK
Perak
State is known for its tin deposits. Sam Poh Tong and Perak Tong are
well-known cave temples. Kuala Kangsar is a town featuring many historical
buildings. Hulu Perak is the lake district of Perak State.
Bukit Larut Museum (Maxwell Hill), Lake Gardens and the Taiping Zoo
are places tourists visit in Taiping. Kellie's Castle in Batu Gajah
was built by Scottish rubber planter William Kellie Smith. Pasir Salak
is a historical site near Batu Gajah. Bukit Berapit is a very popular
duty-free shopping area of Malaysia. A very famous tourist attraction
of Perak is Pangkor island. Tourists also go to Kuala Gula bird sanctuary
in the north. River-rafting is undertaken in Grade
2 Sungai Sungkai.
PANGKOR:
Lying off the west coast of Perak, Pangkor island had been a convenient
stop-over for pirates, adventurers, merchants and soldiers, who sailed
through the Straits of Melaka for several centuries. Today it is a thriving
tourist destination, with its pristine beaches and the rich forests.
Teluk Nipah is a sea park where snorkelling is undertaken with ease.
At Pangkor Laut, divers can discover the underwater
riches like the vast coral reefs - the finest beach in the Straits of
Melaka. Other noteworthy beaches are Pantai Puteri Dewi and Pantai Pasir
Bogak. On the other hand, Kota Belanda, a Dutch fort, stands as a monument
to the island's history.
HOW
TO REACH: Pangkor is 40-minute ferry
ride from Lumut, a coastal town on the peninsula. On the island, buses
and taxis are available.
