Chamba valley is famous for its beautiful landscape

Dalhousie, a popular hill station of Himachal Pradesh, is in Chamba district. Its main attraction is its pleasant climate, while Chamba valley is known for its landscape.

Chamba is situated between Dhauladhar and Zanskar ranges. Chamba town, the district headquarter of Chamba district, is situated on the banks of Ravi river at an elevation of 1,000 metres. On north-west of Chamba district is Jammu and Kashmir, on the north-east and east is Ladakh, on the east is Lahaul and south is Kangra district. There are historical places to see. Chamba has a pleasant climate. Heavy woollen clothes are needed during winter. Chambyali is spoken locally. Dalhousie, Khajjiar, Chamba town, Pangi and Bharamour are in the district. Chamba valley is famous for its beautiful landscape encompassing lakes and streams.

DALHOUSIE: Dalhousie of Chamba district is one of the most famous hill stations in Himachal Pradesh. Surrounded by beautiful snow-capped mountains, it is situated on five hills at an elevation of 2,000 mts. Dalhousie is named after its founder Lord Dalhousie, the British Governor-General in India. There is a predominance of Tibetan culture. Heavy woollens are rquired in winter and cotton is worn in summer.

THE TRIBAL BELT: The northern region of Himachal Pradesh has a substantial number of tribals. According to the socio-economic caste census, the tribals of Himachal are better off than their counterparts elsewhere in the country. The tribals in HP are found in Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti and Chamba districts. The tribes have been identified as Gaddis, Gujjar, Bhoti, Kinnauras, Jhadh Khampa, Lamba, Pangwalas, Swampla, Bhera, Damba and Joba. There are 77,522 rural ST households in HP. The tribal population count is 2,44,587 persons, forming 4 per cent of the total population. There are 77,522 tribal households.
