DUBAI- travel news MUMBAI: The Dubai Cruise Terminal in Port Rashid has been officially opened to ships on port call. Developed to serve the growing frequency of cruise ship calls in the Arabian Gulf, the terminal attended to four ships bringing in 4,000 passengers on the opening day on March 27. The ship-shaped building, 15 minutes drive from Dubai international airport, has a capacity to berth two ships simultaneously. The terminal offers a wide range of facilities such as personal and baggage security screening, covered baggage handling area, tour bus and taxi parking stands, post office and money exchange, business centre with Internet access and conference room. There
are also amenities like information centre, VIP lounge, cafe, rest rooms
with disabled access, duty-free shopping, Arabic palm garden and heritage
and cultural exhibits.
Foot-and-Mouth Spreads in Dubai DUBAI: The foot-and-mouth disease sweeping Europe has spread to West Asian countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia and Iran, it is reported. The infection claimed over 150 head of cattle in one go around mid-March in a farm 85 km south-east of Dubai. Even as Dubai public health authorities were struggling to find ways to control the spread of the disease, Saudi Arabia reported five cases of sick animals being identified in Jeddah and Khamees Mishait. Meanwhile, Iran was distributing 2.5 million doses of vaccine. The infection was reportedly discovered in sheep in Shahroud. While Britain began culling even healthy livestock to contain the infection, reports came in from Anuradhapura in Sri Lanka of the disease being detected there too.Vaccination was started immediately.
MUMBAI: The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing of the Government of Dubai has launched a training division to reorient the hospitality industry to ensure that various sectors are equipped to deliver world class levels of service. Named Tourism and Hospitality Training Solutions, the division was the result of an intensive study which concluded that exclusively Dubai specific training is the only key to attain service excellence. ``Infrastructure alone is not enough to sustain Daub's burgeoning reputation as a sought after destination for business, incentive and leisure travellers. We must excel in our delivery. To do this DTCM will continue to work with the industry as a whole to ensure skills and value-based training that is specific to Dubai and the industry", said the DTCM Director-General, Mr Khalid A bin Sulayem. He said hospitality is not traditionally the first choice of those looking for a career, but it is the world's fastest growing business sector. The DTCM Director, Mr Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, said the new division is a unique training solution. A personalised training geared to instil a personalised service offering, the Solutions stands for ``our all-embracing commitment to service excellence driven by our understanding that people do make the difference.'' The
training courses available range from two days to one year in duration.
They focus on hotel and tour operations, finance management, leadership,
